The Importance of Habits
Wellness is a habit. We more accurately we would say that maintaining wellness is a habit. Starting anything new can take effort but it’s also exciting, particularly if you begin to see immediate or swift results. You might be the sort of person who is forever starting something fresh, only to allow it to drift back into the corner of your consciousness when the world interferes or when something new catches your eye.
When we’re talking about wellness, then habit is your ally. Finding things that you can do quickly and without lots of effort and with only a minor shift in behaviour can become habit very quickly. Research generally indicates that a new habit can feel natural after one month and be truly habitual after two or three months. Of course this does depend on the extent of the change in you daily and weekly routine that you need to make in order to create a new habit (running a marathon every week may take more effort than a regular walk round the block).
A gym session on a day or time when you’re too busy to go really takes effort and if you only manage to go once every couple of weeks then it’s unlikely to create a habit. So unless you absolutely love going to the gym, your motivation will suffer and you’ll find it hard to keep going – after a while it feels like you’re punishing yourself and you’ll start to regret the fact that something else in your life is suffering or being neglected.
Habits are created much more easily if they can be added to your daily routines and not replace existing elements – at the end of the day it’s to begin something new without surrendering something in return.
When we created LYFELY, we had this in our minds. We spoke to a lot of people who aspired for better wellness but they had pre-set routines from morning until night. LYFELY isn’t trying to turn everyone into wellness junkies – we know for many that’s an unachievable goal. But we did want to help people achieve the best available wellness where possible and we did this by allowing our liquid formulas to be added to existing habits. Our supplements can simply be added to a cold drink in the morning (not beer though as this probably isn’t a good wellness start for the day!) and even mixed together.
My mornings consist of a small glass of orange juice which I simply add Magnesium, Mineral Complex and Lyfe Essentials to because those provide the additional support that I need. Yours may be different because wellness is a personal thing. I finish the day with a few sprays of Melatonin once I’ve brushed my teeth to support a decent night’s sleep and I’m ready to go again in the morning.
If you’re the sort of person who easily changes habits then I take my hat off to you because that’s a rare trait. But if you can add to existing habits to maintain wellness then that’s something we hope that everyone can do together with us.
